Providing swimming lessons is so much more than simply just another afterschool club or evening class. Swimming is a whole-body workout, a transferrable skill that makes water such a pleasure to be in. Even more importantly, it is an essential life skill that everyone needs, regardless of their age and ability, and one that actively helps save lives.
Drowning is the third highest cause of death in children in the UK. Research by the Royal Life Saving Society has revealed that one in 10 people in the UK know someone who has drowned and, shockingly, more than 400 people drown in the UK every year. Currently, 1 in 4 children are still unable to swim to a satisfactory standard by the time they leave primary school.
Keeping their children safe is a very compelling argument for parents, but studies by Swim England also show that learning to swim also leads to better health and more opportunities in later life, both in the context of travel and jobs.
For all these reasons, there is a huge demand among parents for swim schools that can teach their children to be safe and confident around water. However, there are too few swim schools and instructors to properly meet this demand, with Swim England estimating as many as 600,000 children may be missing out on lessons every year.

A market which is always growing
Teaching children to swim and relish their time in the water is so rewarding, and comes with a huge advantage from a purely business perspective too. As children progress and graduate from our six swimming levels, cohorts of younger learners are ready to start their own swimming journey with us!
According to government statistics, between 6-700,000 children are born each year here in the UK. That means hundreds, if not thousands, of potential new customers in your territory every year, year on year.
Swimming lessons are something which will never go out of demand. Even during times when people are feeling the squeeze from high costs of living, you’ll be teaching an essential life skill that will always be needed.
While many swim schools, including our own, took a hit during lockdown, our termly numbers not only immediately recovered when schools re-opened, but actually grew by 150%! Adults and children alike have never been so aware of the importance of their physical and mental health.
